Album of an unknown Wehrmacht soldier from the Eastern Front (90)

Album of an unknown Wehrmacht soldier includes 90 black and white photographs taken in the years 1937-1942. The first photograph shows the author with his schoolmates from Deutschherren Mittelschule in Frankfurt. Subsequent photographs document military training in Langendiebach after outbreak of the war, and a visit to Hannoversch Münden during Pentecost in 1941. Before the attack on the Soviet Union in June 1941, the author spent a few days in Warsaw where he took 10 street photographs. Shortly afterwards he was deployed to the German attaca positions on the river Bug. The next part of the album documents subsequent phases of operation ”Barbarossa” – the German blitz offensive, hardships of Russian winter and welcoming of 1942 spring near the town of Mtsensk. Among pictures of destroyed Soviet tanks and occupied towns, the author placed some pictures of German field cemeteries. The photographic chronicle of the unknown soldier ends in June 1942, and the last pictures were taken in occupied Kharkiv.
