The photographs often show children, whose fates are intertwined with the Rising's realities. Young Varsovians would fill sandbags used for raising barricades, pass on buckets with water during firefighting actions, and assist in tending to the wounded. You can see children share their parents' hardships, using barricades as cover to run across the streets under enemy fire, hiding in cellars, and in many cases ending up in POW camps with adults after the fall of the Rising Fortunately, there were moments of carefree joy - an insurgent photographer Joachim Joachimczyk depicted a performance of the puppet theatre for children "Puppets at a Barricade" shown in the yards of Powiśle and City Centre. Another photo by this author shows two boys concentrating on a game of chess.
